Trends of the Retail Sector

What are the trends in the Retail Sector ?

Heard on the radio, the analysis of an investment company specializing in the retail sector.

According to the CEO interviewed, there are three main trends in retail:

      1. The digitization of points of sale “in the broadest sense”, i.e. not just having a website managed alongside the store network, which has been a must for some years now if you want to remain competitive and not lose customers. By digitalization, we also mean the use of social networks for communication: Instagram, Tik Tok, beyond Facebook and LinkedIn... Digitalization therefore includes all the digital tools available to a company that addresses consumers, i.e. the tools that consumers will also consult on a daily basis.
      2. Point-of-sale staging: once again, this is a major trend that began a few years ago. But it's not just about creating a pleasant, original customer experience, it's also about coordinating these atmospheres so that customers can find them in every store in the network, and above all, it's about ensuring that logistics keep up with the times, so that stores don't run out of stock, which would lead to a loss of sales and customer dissatisfaction. The importance of keeping up with trends in terms of in-store references is also essential. Customers need to feel they're in the right place at the right time.
      3. CSR and environmental sustainability: this is now a sine qua non condition. The store network must guarantee its customers that it cares about the planet, that it has a dynamic and genuine CSR policy (no green washing!) and that it communicates on the subject. The company's actions in favor of the planet have become an essential selection criterion for demanding consumers, who will not hesitate to change stores if they are not convinced or if they are disappointed.
